The beautiful Chateau Rieutort is situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France on the banks of the river Hérault.
It is situated in the middle of a 2,5 hectare park and 30 hectares of its own vineyards.
It was in the 17th century that the construction of the Château Rieutort began. In the 18th century it was a summer residence of one of Napoleon’s generals.
It was then that the northern part of the building was transformed into a wine cellar.
Acquired in 2002 by Béatrice and Bernard Nivollet the château went through a major renovation which restored its former glory.
Driven by a love for history and a passion for conservation, Karina and Peter have taken up the torch and continue of the restoration of Rieutort for another six years to sympathetically restore the excitement and grandeur of the château.
It was a deliberate choice to redecorate, at least a part of the property, in the Barroque style to bring back to life the ancient spirit of the house.
Karina’s and Peter’s intention from the very start was to share this enchanting setting with their guests who often become friends.
The bed and breakfast accommodation consists of one double bedroom and four suites of which two are air conditioned. They are furnished with new but pretending baroque period furniture hand made for the chateau.
They all look on to the park and have a private bathroom and WC. In every suite you will find a large double bed and three of the rooms have sofa beds as well.
The top floor suites are air conditioned. The ground floor suite is accessible for guests with limited mobility. The largest suite has a 100 square metre private terrace with a spectacular view of the Cevennes and the vineyards.
Breakfast, which is included in the price, is served between 9:00 and 10:00 and depending on the weather conditions, is served in the park or dining room.
All the gites have been renovated to a very high quality and have outdoor space with a table and chairs. The kitchens are fully equipped and there are also washing machines.
In all bathrooms there are showers, some gîtes have also a bath tub.
Of the gites, Petit Rieutort has a jacuzzi on its terrace, Grand-Rieutort has a vast terrace with a magnificent view of the vineyard.
Staying in Les Barriques you will enjoy a view of the wine barrels stocked in the winery from your living room.
Gîte Chais offers you romantic nights in a four poster bed and Petit Fleur is ideal for small families.
Towels and bedding are provided. Cleaning at the end of your stay is included in price as well.
In the winery which is attached to the château, the partner of Chateau Rieutort, Blanville, makes high quality wines (especially Château Haut-Blanville) which are regularly rated amongst the best in Languedoc . If you would like to visit the winery, you are invited to join the daily organised tour and wine tasting at 18h.
What a perfect way to end the day, or start the evening!
Chateau Rieutort is not a naturist resort on daily basis at other times of the season.
However, the Chateau has two swimming pools and the owners decided to turn one of the pools into a naturist area.
Interestingly, this proved to be the most popular.
As a result, the owners are very happy to welcome naturists every day from April 1st until the first week end of January when the only fully naked zone will be the naturist pool.
However, they would love to organise other naturist weeks throughout the summer if there is the demand.
For more information regarding this naturist week, and other weeks during the season, please visit the Chateau Rieutort website.
