Hidden Gems and Christmas!

However, we would just like to tell you about a couple of hidden gems that we have stayed at during the past year.

We intended to stay only for a couple of days at each of these places and ended up staying for two weeks at both of them.

We would point out that we stayed at both of them in our camper van, however, there is alternative accommodation available.

TERRA NUA, PORTUGAL

Run by Jorge and Helder in the beautiful Alentejo, we arrived on Christmas day with the intention of staying for two days but had real difficulty in leaving.

We would point out that driving through Portugal on Christmas Day was a dream if you don't mind delaying celebrations until the evening.

There are large camping spaces for tents and caravans/motorhomes, and it is pet friendly. There are only 20 pitches with access to electricity, which lends itself to an extremely relaxing atmosphere.

There is a snack bar where it is possible to by ready made meals such as pizzas and hamburgers.

Next to the bar/snack bar is a lovely swimming pool.

Domaine de Sarraute

This was partly down to the fact that we arrived on their first day of the season and, for a couple of days, we were the only campers on the site.

Domaine de Sarraute is run by a lovely couple, Joelle and Jean-Luc. There are 33 pitches with electricity, all situated in woodland and within very easy reach of the sanitary block. There are also 4 mobile homes.

There is a very relaxing pool area and a nearby snack bar where it is possible to buy fast food meals such as fish and chips and pizzas. There is also a bar selling local beers and wines as well as soft drinks and ice cream.

The nearby town of Le Houga is an easy cycle or a ten minute drive.
