Red beach, Matala, Crete

We visited Red Beach in September 2010. It is to the south of Matala. Park a few hundred metres south of the town. It is then a 25-30 minute hike up a rough track which involves a bit of a climb then steep descent to Red Beach.

It was busy the day we visited with mainly naturists on the beach. There was light refreshments available but we're not sure how regular this arrangement is so best take some supplies. Most memorable were the excellent breakers coming in from the sea.

A nice beach

I've visited Red Beach a number of times over the years and always enjoyed it, whenever I've been most other users are also nude. The caves in the cliff overlooking the beach were used for many years to live/holiday in, as far as I know that practice has been stopped now.
